Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka Undergraduate Entrance Test

COMEDK UGET is a computer-based entrance examination for first-year B.E./B.Tech admission in participating private unaided engineering institutions in Karnataka. It is administered by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK), followed by centralised online counselling. Students from across India can use this route; it is not Karnataka's KCET route and it does not cover government engineering seats.

COMEDK now uses UGET for engineering admission. Medical and dental admission is through NEET, while B.Arch candidates use the architecture scores specified by COMEDK and register separately. Start with the https://www.comedk.org/" class="inlink">COMEDK website and https://www.comedk.org/uploads/Information-brochure-2026-version-1.0.pdf" class="inlink">official UGET brochure.

Who can apply for B.E./B.Tech?

  • Indian citizens, OCI candidates and PIO candidates may appear, subject to prescribed declarations and admission rules.
  • The qualifying examination must be second PUC, Class 12 or equivalent recognised by a Central or State Government.
  • The last two years must include Physics, Mathematics and English, with Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Computer Science or Electronics under the brochure's subject formulation.
  • General Merit candidates need at least 45% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The threshold is 40% for SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka. These subjects must also be passed individually.
  • All subjects, including optional or additional subjects, must be passed. Subject marks assembled from two different boards are not accepted.
  • A zero test score does not generate a rank.

Diploma holders cannot use UGET for second-year lateral entry: the engineering notification is for first-year admission and COMEDK has no lateral-entry route. Check the exact rules in your admission cycle because changes adopted from AICTE or VTU may alter eligibility.

The official syllabus is based on the applicable CBSE Class 11 and 12 syllabus, with approximately one-third weight from Class 11 and two-thirds from Class 12 in the cited brochure. Download the cycle-specific syllabus rather than assuming every chapter remains unchanged.

How to prepare intelligently

The paper gives roughly one minute per question. Since there is no negative marking, speed with accuracy matters.

1. Map every official syllabus topic as strong, repairable or weak.

2. Learn concepts and standard results, then practise short timed PCM sets.

3. Take complete three-hour computer-based mocks and practise moving between subjects.

4. Classify every error as a concept gap, calculation error, misreading or time-pressure failure.

5. Use the official mock facility when available so the interface is familiar.

6. Reserve final minutes for unanswered items, but do not let random attempts replace a first pass through solvable questions.

Score, rank and cutoff

COMEDK publishes a score and rank. Admission is not secured by merely “qualifying”: the practical cutoff is the closing rank for a particular college, branch, seat category and counselling round.

A CSE closing rank at one institution is not the cutoff for all branches or colleges. Closing ranks move with seat availability, preferences, upgrades and withdrawals. Use official earlier cutoff files as planning evidence, not guarantees. The https://www.comedk.org/" class="inlink">COMEDK homepage publishes cutoff notices.

Build three shortlist bands: ambitious options that historically closed above your rank, realistic options near it, and safety options that remained open below it. Then arrange every college–branch combination in your true preference order. The allotment engine considers the highest available preference for your rank, so never place a “safe” choice above an option you genuinely prefer.

What happens after the result?

1. Register for counselling: eligible rank holders register separately and pay the notified non-refundable registration fee.

2. Upload documents: only candidates whose verification status is approved can enter main choice filling and allotment.

3. Research options: compare curriculum, approval/accreditation, location, hostel, total cost and official placement disclosures.

4. Fill choices: list every acceptable college–branch combination in genuine preference order. Round-one choice filling is mandatory under the cited rules.

5. Study mock allotment: use it to correct poor ordering or an overly narrow list. A mock seat is not final.

6. Act on final allotment: select the permitted decision within the deadline and complete required payment.

7. Report: after freezing, download the allotment letter and receipt and report with required originals.

The official decision terms matter:

  • Accept & Freeze: keep the seat, stop later-round participation and report.
  • Accept & Upgrade: keep the seat while seeking a higher saved preference; an upgrade cancels the earlier allotment.
  • Reject & Upgrade: surrender the current seat but continue for a higher preference.
  • Reject & Withdraw: reject the seat and leave counselling.

Silence is not safe. Under the cited rules, failure to act on a first allotment is treated as Reject & Withdraw. Later-round eligibility, cancellation, refund and Kalyana Karnataka rules differ, so read the cycle's https://www.comedk.org/uploads/Counselling_Process_Document_2026_-_Version_1_0.pdf" class="inlink">official counselling process before clicking a decision.

Documents to prepare

Use the live checklist. Students should generally keep the application, rank card, test admission ticket, government ID, Class 10 date-of-birth proof, Class 12/second PUC marks card, and applicable category, OCI/PIO or Kalyana Karnataka records ready. Names and dates of birth must agree across documents. A category claim must survive verification.

Participating colleges and courses

The live https://comedk.org/member-institutions" class="inlink">official member-institutions directory gives the full list, college codes, locations and individual pages. It includes institutions such as R.V. College of Engineering, M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore Institute of Technology, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Siddaganga Institute of Technology, The National Institute of Engineering campuses and JSS Science and Technology University, among many others.

Membership can change, so a copied list should not replace that directory. Check whether the exact branch and seat appear in the current seat matrix. The https://www.comedk.org/courses-offered-uget" class="inlink">official courses page provides branch information.

For each option, record AICTE approval, relevant accreditation, curriculum, earlier closing ranks, total cost, official placement disclosure, location, hostel rules and refund consequences. Prefer a branch you can study for four years at a college you can afford; neither a famous college nor a fashionable branch name alone settles the decision.

Common mistakes

  • Treating UGET as a medical/dental test because those words remain in the consortium's name.
  • Confusing COMEDK with KCET or assuming Karnataka domicile is compulsory for every applicant.
  • Using the 40% threshold without valid Karnataka SC/ST/OBC proof.
  • Assuming diploma lateral entry is available.
  • Reading one closing rank as a universal cutoff.
  • Filling too few choices or ordering them by predicted cutoff rather than preference.
  • Treating mock allotment as final or overlooking a decision deadline.
  • Paying agents. COMEDK says its website is the only official website and warns against third parties.
